A homeowner was met with two burglars when she went to check on a vacant rental property Wednesday morning, according to Busti Police.

When the homeowner went to the property at 2251 Big Tree Road, she found Jody Crissman hiding in the basement behind a clothes dryer, according to officials. The homeowner told police she had a handgun with her and held Crissman at gunpoint.

Police say the homeowner told Crissman to go to the garage area of the house and asked if there was anyone else hiding in the house. Crissman said Kyel Samuelson was also hiding in the basement.

According to officers, the homeowner had to use Crissman's cell phone to call the police. While the homeowner was upstairs on the phone with police, Samuelson broke out a basement window and ran away, according to officials.

Officers placed Crissman into custody when they arrived at the scene and located Samuelson a short time after. Officers attempted to place him into custody and say he resisted arrest.

When officers investigated, they found Crissman and Samuelson were in the house to steal items from the home, which they had placed in a tote to carry out.

Both Crissman and Samuelson were charged with burglary, attempted petit larceny and criminal mischief. Samuelson was additionally charged with resisting arrest.

Both people were arraigned and are being held in the county jail on $75,000 cash and $150,000 property bail.
