High water levels in Lake Ontario are not only posing a threat to shoreline homeowners but to boaters as well.
Jonathan Schultz, Director of Emergency Services for Niagara County, tells 7 Eyewitness News that obstacles once visible are now covered by water. Schultz is advising boaters to be extra careful and to use "low idle" inside the bay areas.
The situation is not going to get better anytime soon because levels in Lake Ontario are expected to keep rising until the middle of May.
People heading to the water's edge are advised to use caution because the high water has also loosened dirt and debris that normally is firm.
High water is also drowning business for marinas in Wilson were numerous slips and docks are now underwater and unusable. With a major Spring fishing derby starting at the end of next week, marinas and supporting businesses say they expect to lose money because there are very limited places for the boats to dock.
