(WKBW) It is Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week. It's a time to bring attention to the disease of the brain and spinal cord that affects hundreds of thousands of Americans with 200 new cases diagnosed each week.
Here's a good way to show your support. The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles is relaunching a national MS custom license plate, that bears the multiple sclerosis logo.
These are available to drivers who want to help the effort to fight MS.
The $25 renewal fee goes to the New York State Multiple Sclerosis Research Fund to support MS research .
A large portion of the money is planned to go to the Jacobs Neurological Institute in Buffalo, to support its pediatric research programs.
Since the first launch eight years ago, the custom plates have raised more than $26,000 dollars.
The plate can be ordered on line or at any DMV office.
