(WKBW) A first of its kind program in Western New York was unveiled today to help our vets stay healthy.
The initiative is called "Helping Our Heroes" and BlueCross BlueShield of WNY is committing $250,000 to the cause.
The money will be used to create a one-stop veterans assistance center and neighborhood sites, where vets can receive all kinds of services, including help with employment, housing and finances as well as important health care services and health screenings to support their emotional and physical well-being.
Officials gathered today at the first identified site, the Cazenovia Resource Center in South Buffalo. Blue Cross has several local, state and national partners in this endeavor, but is challenging more local agencies to take up the cause.
