(WKBW) It's the largest investment in Buffalo's East Side in several years. 150 million dollars in improvements that will make Erie County Medical Center a destination for health care.

The dramatic expansion includes a new long-term care facility, a 333-vehicle parking ramp, a transplant and kidney center of excellence, an orthopedic expansion, and a refurbishing of the adolescent psychiatric clinic.

The transplant and kidney center is part of a consolidation with Kaleida Health and construction began this fall.

Work on the new state-of-the-art 390-bed long-term care facility on the Grider campus begins next spring.

Besides the economic boost of the expansion, officials say it also means top-notch care for patients.
