(WKBW) A good friend can change your life, and no one knows that better than one local organization that is now celebrating 25 years of creating lifelong friendships.

Compeer is an Erie County agency that pairs at risk kids up with caring mentors. Volunteers commit to at least an hour a week for a year to their friend, providing them with emotional support and serving as a positive role model.

Compeer is holding a gala next weekend, with proceeds benefiting its Compeer for Kids program, to mark 25 years of making a difference in children's lives.

The Compeer event is a masquerade ball to be held next Saturday, October 30th at the Hyatt Regency in Buffalo. For more information on the event or on being a Compeer volunteer, click on News Links.
