Light Activity Helps Reduce Risk of Atrial Fibrillation
A new study shows that light to moderate physical activity may significantly lower the risk of developing atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat that can lead to heart failure and stroke.
Researchers found that adults who had light to moderate levels of leisure-time activity had a 22-25% lower risk of an irregular heartbeat compared with adults who had little to no activity. The risk dropped as much as 44% for adults who walked from 5 to more than 60 blocks a week. |
