Cleveland Clinic (WKBW) – You may be working longer hours to make a little extra cash but doctors say it could be hazardous to your health. Experts encourage anyone working those excessive hours to be aware of why they are doing it.

Experts at the Cleveland Clinic give some reason s as to why people work late. One reason is that they just want the feeling of getting things done. Although it could be a good thing, they say don’t obsess over it. Another reason doctors give is that workaholics may not have anything to look forward to when they leave work. The person may also be avoiding an issue at home.

Doctors do say that some people use work as a tension reliever.. These people also tend to focus more on wealth than health. They found people who work more than 50 hours per week tend to skip meals and are depressed.

“If you are working too much than you are not exercising as much. If you're overworking you're maybe not paying attention to nurturing relationships. There is an expression I like "we die with our inboxes full" so in order to have some balance, it's good for those folks to recognize that they are spending too much time at work and start going home at a specific hour,” Psychologist with the Cleveland Clinic Scott Bea said.

Doctors said you may be a workaholic if you stay until a task is done and never leave at a particular time. Some workaholics leave for work earlier than needed in the morning.

Experts said if you are trying to get everything totally completed every day it becomes frustrating. They say complete what you can, have a deadline and then go home.
