Cleveland Clinic (WKBW) – We’ve all heard the phrase “don’t sweat the small stuff”. In other words, don’t let the small things fester and make you upset. Experts said letting negative feelings build up could be the recipe for a lot of stress.
Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic said it is not about who is right or wrong. It is about learning tolerance and training yourself not get stressed out. This could be who is putting the dishes in the sink to picking up towels off the floor. They suggest telling yourself over and over that it is no big deal and to let it go.
On the flip side, you can work positively by identifying the good in the situation, like the skills you are learning.
“You're not just focused on the bad things so you can tell yourself hey I’m learning how to tolerate that and I never thought I could do that. It's a great learning for life,” Cleveland Clinic Dr. Mike McKee said.
The experts said getting along with people is one of the most important skills to master. For many people it means letting go of those small things that bother them. Experts add that studies show the happiest and longest-lasting couples are those that don’t let the small things get to them.
