Cleveland Clinic (WKBW) – Doctors at the Cleveland clinic said many children have homework anxiety. This happens especially in the first couple weeks when the syllabus is overwhelming. To overcome this stress, doctors said to have a plan in place.

Experts said to give your kids a chance to unwind immediately after school. They say about a half an hour to snack and relax will do. After that, homework should be done.

Clinic doctors said you can set an hour aside as “the homework hour”. They said to also have a goal in mind such as “homework will be done before dinner every night”. They said taking these steps would make the expectations clear to the child.

“Establish the routine right away and make sure the kids know what the expectation is. Just like with homework, with everything else kids need to know what they have to do before they get to do what they want to do,” Cleveland Clinic Dr. Kate Eshleman said.

When it comes to really tough assignment, mom and dad can lend some advice. They said let your child know that you can help without doing their homework for them.

Taking these easy steps, while getting the kids organized in other areas will alleviate a lot of the homework stress right off the bat.
