Czar is an outgoing 3-year-old German Sheppard Mix. His owners are Nicole and Tommy Shanor. They just met last week.

“It's going to sound cliche. It was love at first sight. I'd say with all of us,” said Tommy.

Tommy is a firefighter on Grand Island. He met Czar last week while responding to a 911 call. The family that needed help, agreed they could no longer properly care of the animal.

Between Tommy and the other firefighters, there was no shortage of people willing to help the orphaned pup.

“During that time, we all kind of bonded. There was maybe seven or eight of us,” added Tommy.

It was agreed Tommy would take Czar home. He only had one last thing he needed to do.
Convince his wife they should adopt a dog.

“He's like, sit down and listen to this. So, he had pictures of the dog and he was telling us the story of the dog. And I was like, I want to go see him,” said Nicole.

Nicole agreed to adopt the dog.

Love at first sight for a dog and a firefighter. It's not the most typical pet adoption story, but that doesn't matter for Czar and his owners. The dog is happy and so are they.
