Students and community members alike were on hand at Grand Island High School on August 31 for the donation of a $25 thousand-plus check to the John R. Oishei Children's hospital.

The money was donated as part of the "Complete a Room with Care" campaign, which was designed to help raise an additional $1 million. The room the community donated, which will be marked with a dedication, is one of 100 rooms that have been donated so far. Another 100 rooms are still available for donation.

Right now there are 43 stand-alone Children's Hospitals in the country. The new facility at the Buffalo/Niagara Medical Campus will open in November, about 125 years after the original hospital opened on Bryant Street.

Each floor will be themed in the new hospital; the Grand Island room will be located on the 10th level, which will have a sports theme.
