BUFFALO, N.Y. ( WKBW ) The Buffalo Area will host 12 senior high school students from all over New York State who will compete for the title of Distinguished Young Woman of New York on Saturday March 31st, 2012.
Event organizer Susan Makai stopped by Channel 7's Eyewitness News This Morning to talk about this exciting event.
The winners are selected by participating in the following areas of competition: Scholastics, Talent, Self-Expression, Fitness, and Interview.
This non-profit organization is part of a nation-wide scholarship competition, which awards over $5 million annually to qualified young women who are high school seniors planning to attend college.
As opposed to beauty pageants, the New York Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program concentrates on well-rounded young women who have excelled in the classroom, been active in extracurricular activities, developed a performing talent, asserted leadership among peers, and have made a commitment to her community.
The program finals will be held in the auditorium at Maryvale High School on Saturday, March 31, at 6:30 PM. For ticket information, call 716-831-3870.
