Lockport Native is "Miss Niagara"

BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW ) Lockport native Desiree Wiley is looking forward to competing in the Miss New York State competition, after taking the title of "Miss Niagara" last Sunday at the Palace Theater in Lockport.

Desiree is also a Buffalo State College student, and an intern at WKBW-TV.

Wiley has been competing in pageants for a number years, and has worked as a model in the Western New York area since she was a child.

In addition to talking about her title, Desiree also discussed the importance of Black History Month with Eyewitness News This Morning anchors Patrick Taney and Ginger Geoffery.

Wiley explained that young people need to understand the significance of the month, and to embrace African American heritage to understand why opportunities exist today.
