Sardinia, N.Y. (WKBW) - Meet Boy Scout Brandon Sullivan. He's been working to become an Eagle Scout for seven years. Now, it is a community project at High Hurtles Barn that will help him reach his goal.

“Once I got it done it was a huge accomplishment to me,” Sullivan said.

Brandon built a shelter for therapeutic horses working with people at SASI. SASI is a non-profit rehabilitation agency helping disabled adults.

“This shelter is going to help the horses because it's just an open field and they didn't have anywhere to go,” Sullivan said.

They wouldn't be protected from the elements, the flies, rain, snow, etc. This gives them the opportunity to let them be horses, be outside with the option of some shelter if they want shelter,” SASI Equine Services Supervisor Megan Stapley said.

More than 40 volunteers came out last weekend to make this happen and the shelter was built within two days. This project not only helps the animals.

SASI Client Dan Blasdell rides and cares for Horse Penny. She is refer to as the. “Diva” of the barn. Blasdell said this shelter makes Penny happy. In turn, she helps him every day.

“Helps calm me down. Helps calm Penny down. It's just a win-win situation,” Blasdell said.

The horses not only have a brand new place to relax but it also comes with an amazing view. Sullivan said it is a project that will keep on giving to them animals and those who need them most.

“I really feel great now,” Sullivan said.
