West Seneca, N.Y. (WKBW) - Destiny Ruhlmann is just 14 years but has been dealing with a lot for the passed six months.

“The cancer was Rhabdomyosarcoma and it was on my cervix,” Ruhlmann said.

She is in Chemotherapy once a week now and she said this experience has changed her life forever.

“I got a hysterectomy. I can't have babies but someone else can hold my babies. This is the biggest thing I went through. It makes me feel more mature into a person,” Ruhlmann said.

She said this is a lot for a young girl to go through but she had support through a local group.

“It's Kaely Kindness Foundation which was started after my daughter was diagnosed with Lymphoma,” Mother Maggie Dryer said.

Kaely is doing well now and is in college in Albany.

“Kaely Kindness is a foundation for teen girls dealing with cancer. We get together and talk and do different activities, spa day, dinner, Bills game, just so we can all cope together,” Kaely Dryer said.

Ruhlmann said it the group helped her through the toughest time in her life.

“It helped keep my mind off things. I met a lot of girls and we still stay in touch,” Ruhlmann said.

One of those girls was nineteen-year-old Mackenzie Kanhinicki.

“I actually Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I was diagnosed in May of 2012. I went through two rounds of Chemotherapy and 14 days of radiation,” Kanhinicki said.

McKenzie says Kaely's Kindness helped her through and thankfully she is in remission. Now, she wants to help others.

“I don't want to think of my own cancer but I do want to be able to talk to these girls,” Kanhinicki said.

Parents said the group not only is support for the teens.

“All the parents get together and discuss what type of treatment they went through, how they are doing and how they recovering,” Sam Ruhlmann said.

The group can’t do this alone. They need the community's help through donations to give these girls a nice night out once a month to step away reality. They said spending time with true friends, who understand is one of the best therapies.
