(WKBW) - We've all had those moments when our friends tag us in some of the most unflattering photos on Facebook. Now, that tagging feature is coming to Instagram.
Previously, the only way you found out whether a picture of you was uploaded was to scroll through your activity, hoping someone had mentioned you in their caption with your username. Now, the photos you're tagged in will show up right on your page.
The feature is very similar to Facebook's feature, but has one crucial difference: Only the person uploading the photo can tag you.
Instagram will send you a notification if you're tagged in a photo. If the picture of you is something you'd rather people not see, you can untag yourself.
All you have to do is click on the tag in the photo, which will bring up a dialogue box of options. There, you can choose to hide the photo, remove the tag, or report the photo as inappropriate.
The new feature, which goes public on May 16th, is causing for some skepticism. The majority of the 90 million monthly active users however seem to be OK with it.
