BUFFALO, NY - Darwin McPherson from "Buffalo Spree" magazine reviews what is on stage at the Irish Classical Theater with Mike Randall on Channel 7's "Eyewitness News This Morning"

In response to popular demand, the Irish Classical Theatre Company is proud to remount last season’s critically-acclaimed production of the Tony Award winning musical James Joyce’s The Dead, Book by Richard Nelson, Music by Shaun Davey, for a limited engagement. Described by Anne Neville in The Buffalo News as “captivating … lyrical … flawless,” this delightful Christmas play with music will be performed at ICTC’s Andrews Theatre Thursday, December 1 through Sunday, December 18.

Based on Joyce’s short story from The Dubliners, James Joyce’s The Dead, directed by ICTC Associate Director Derek Campbell, is a memorable and touching musical in which three generations gather in the home of their beloved aunts in turn-of-the-century Dublin for a magical and moving holiday celebration. Returning as Music Director for the production is Jason Bravo.

James Joyce’s The Dead once again stars Brian Riggs as Gabriel Conroy, Ellen Horst as Aunt Kate, Sheila McCarthy as Aunt Julia and Wendy Hall as Mary Jane. Also returning to the cast this season are Cassie Gorniewicz as Lily, John Kaczorowski as Michael, Matt Witten as Bartell D’Arcy, Valerie Yawien as Miss Molly Ivors and Jason Bravo as Patrick. New to the cast are Kelly Meg Brennan in the role of Gretta Conroy, Pamela Rose Mangus as Mrs. Malins, Doug Weyand as Mr. Browne, Chris Kelly as Freddy and Renee Landrigan as Young Julia.

Supporting the production are Production Stage Manager Renee Radzavich, Assistant Stage Manager Nicole Drozd, Lighting Designer and Technical Director Brian Cavanagh, Set Designer Ron Schwartz, Sound Designer Tom Makar, Costume Designer Kari Drozd and Hair & Make up Designer Susan Drozd.

Reflecting on the popularity of James Joyce’s The Dead, Artistic Director Vincent O’Neill commented, “The Irish Classical Theatre Company is thrilled to bring back, in response to extraordinary patron response, James Joyce’s The Dead. Last season’s production was warmly embraced by large and enthusiastic audiences, and at the time, we were unable to extend the production. We are pleased to offer it again this year, in limited engagement, for those who were not able to attend a performance and, also, for the many patrons who expressed a desire to make James Joyce’s The Dead one of their annual holiday traditions.”
