Lewiston, N.Y. (WKBW) –Hundreds of sweet animals are in need of a home.
“We love you to meet one of our adoptable dogs her name is Sally,” Linda Vanharssel with the Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue said.
The Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue is helping Sally and many other animals find homes.
“Our goal is to rescue and re-home animals. Our animals come from puppy mills, shelters, abandon,” Vanharssel said.
The organization is a non-profit. Vanharssel said saving these animals and finding them homes is not cheap. They rely whole-heartedly on fundraisers, especially an event happening next month.
“This is our major fundraiser. Our second annual Heart to Heart fundraiser called Taste of the Niagara Region,” Vanharssel said.
Restaurants from the area are going to donate 250 samples that will be shared with the community for a cost. All that money will go back to the organization.
The Village Bake Shoppe is just one of the many businesses involved. Michael Fiore and his wife own the café and are involved with the fundraiser.
“My wife and I do love animals and we want to be able to help and it's a great organization. Again, help the animals and small companions,” Fiore said.
Another restaurant is the Lewiston and Griffon Pubs. Owner Ken Scibetta said it's about the animals but this event also brings the community together and puts local businesses in the limelight.
“We are fortunate to be in Western New York. It's a place that cares so much. I never heard anybody say no especially in the Niagara region. It's unbelievable where all the restaurants and businesses come together. It really shows in everything we do,” Scibetta said.
As for Sally, she is in loving and caring place right now but this fundraiser will help find the perfect place for her to call home sweet home forever.
