Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) - Mike Paterniti's 140th headstand took place at the Botanical Gardens in Buffalo.

“It started with a simple project on Facebook. I called it 30 headstands in 30 days. It garnered so much attention we decided to turn it into a charity event,” Paterniti said.
It is all part of Headstands for Humanity a group that raises money for causes across Western New York.
“It benefits under-served and special needs children,” Paterniti said.
Paterniti said although it is unique, it is not only about the headstands. He said it is about the people and the cause. This weekend they are holding a group headstand that will break records in more than one way.
“We hope to break the record of most people doing the most headstands simultaneously in one area,” Paterniti said.
It will also raise money for Holiday Valley ski programs giving disable children the chance to hit the slopes.
“The proceeds will benefit the Lounsburry Adaptive Ski Program, the Great Valley Trail Fund and Wounded Warriors project. We need gymnists, yogis, athletic teams to come down, anyone who can do a headstand,” Paterniti said.
In order to participate your headstand has to make the grade.
“To qualify you must be in a headstand within five seconds, with feet together and legs together completely vertical and you must hold it for 15 seconds,” Paterniti said.
Paterniti said headstands make a positive difference in the live of others. He said it is the people involved that count. Kathy Maculum and Paula Kelman both donated to the cause after seeing mike in a headstand.
‘We thought what a great idea. We think it’s wonderful and hope you do well on Saturday,” Paula Kelman said.
They then got a group hug.
“My favorite headstands involved a lot of people. It has a magical way to impact people, bring fun into their lives and breaking down barriers,” Paterniti said.
