Halloween is still 3 weeks away, but candy for the occasion is everywhere, so now is the time to start thinking about how you're going to handle those sweet treats.

Halloween and the weeks leading up to it can destroy any diet if you're not
careful. Dietitians say one thing you don't want to do is buy your candy now.

"Wait, literally until Halloween. Typically the candy is on sale the day of
Halloween. You can actually buy it that day, so you don't have it hanging
around in your house and then set an expiration date," says Kristin Kirkpatrick, a registered dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic.

Dietitians say give yourself 1 to 3 weeks after Halloween, then get rid of the rest of the candy. Also, buy candy you don't like or just buy enough for what you'll need come Halloween night.

Dietitians also recommend buying all hard candy to pass out, so if you dip into your stash early, hard candy takes longer to consume and
typically has less calories... just don't eat 10 a day! With Family Time, I'm Joanna Pasceri.
