Amherst, N.Y. (WKBW) - ‘Embrace the Difference’ is a line of jewelry and much more.
“It's interlocking circle connected by a square. The square shows that everyone is different, everyone has something," Zimmer said.
Mother Robyn Zimmer started the jewelry line. Her husband owns Reeds Jewelry Store. The jewelry has a special meaning
“It was inspired by my son Sam who has developmental disabilities and Aspergers. Growing up he was accepted by other people and he was able to grow into the wonderful person he is today,” Zimmer said.
Robyn wanted the same for others and she said acceptance is key. She sells the jewelry to raise money for not only autism awareness but more than 50 other organizations. Robyn has also teamed up with local artist Colleen Darby to get the word out.
“The symbol, I used yellow canary with one red canary. The one canary is looking back at viewer say are you going to be judgmental or are you going to be inclusive,” Darby said.
The painting entitled Painting a Better World are also being sold for charity but more importantly it is spreading their message.
“The message is to be kind and accepting no matter what difference we have,” Zimmer said.
As for Robyn and her son, she said he is living a full life because of others who have embraced his difference.
