BUFFALO, NY – The Irish Classical Theatre Company continues its 2011-2012 Season with A Delicate Balance, Edward Albee’s Pulitzer Prize winning drama, Thursday, April 19 through Sunday, May 13, 2012. Directed by ICTC Associate Director Derek Campbell, A Delicate Balance is presented in association with Red Thread Productions and by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1967 – the first of three the playwright has received for his work - a Tony Award nomination for Best Play for the original Broadway production and a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play in 1996 – Edward Albee’s A Delicate Balance is written by one of the most eloquent writers of our time.

In this celebrated American classic, lauded for its graceful, humorous and combative prose, the deceptively peaceful lives of Agnes and Tobias spiral into chaos when longtime friends Harry and Edna arrive, fleeing from a nameless terror. Add to the mix Agnes’ alcoholic sister, Claire, and daughter, bitter divorcee Julia, shake well, and equanimity slowly dissolves in a sea of dry martinis.

Daring to encounter the void created by the loss of love in a marriage adrift from its moorings, the language is as elegant and clever as Oscar Wilde and Noel Coward. Yet lurking beneath the surface of this profoundly human and touching drama is an unfathomable sense of heartbreak and uncertainty.

The cast includes Josephine Hogan as Agnes, ICTC Artistic Director Vincent O’Neill as Tobias, Maureen Ann Porter as Claire, Peter Palmisano as Harry, Colleen Gaughan as Edna and Morgan Chard as Julia.
