JEWISH REPERTORY THEATRE ANNOUNCES FEBRUARY/MARCH PRODUCTION
At the Maxine and Robert Seller Theatre

The Jewish Repertory Theatre will present two one-act plays, the Jewish wife & duck variations, to run February 9 – March 4, 2012 at the new Maxine and Robert Seller Theatre, 2640 N. Forest Road, Getzville, New York.

THE JEWISH WIFE, by Bertolt Brecht, is directed by Saul Elkin and stars Megan Callahan and Tim Newell. The Jewish wife of a consultant doctor is packing. As she phones friends and relatives to tell them of her imminent departure it becomes apparent that she is fleeing Germany in the face of Nazi prejudice to save her husband embarrassment and probable loss of position. She rehearses a frank confrontation with him but when he returns, they lapse into the clichés they both know are lies.

THE DUCK VARIATIONS, by David Mamet, stars Tim Newell and Saul Elkin. The play depicts a warm and humorous discussion taking place between two elderly men sitting on a park bench watching ducks. The dialogue begins with the mating habits of ducks and runs to examine law, friendship and death. The principal irony is that the men really know nothing about ducks. They use what experience has taught them and possibly incorrect ideas to make guesses, assuring each other their guesses are established fact.

"These are two wonderful plays," says Saul Elkin, director and actor. "THE JEWISH WIFE is serious, set in Germany in 1938. THE DUCK VARIATIONS is a sweet and often humorous dialogue between two senior citizens. Both plays are by modern masters. The contrast between the two plays makes for a very interesting evening."

Director – Duck Variations: Peter Palmisano. Director – Jewish Wife: Saul Elkin. Stage Manager: Tracy Snyder. Lighting Designer: Brian Cavanagh. Sound Designer: Tom Makar. Set Designer: Ron Schwartz. Costume Designer: Ann Emo.
