NEW YORK CITY, NY (WKBW) - Today we meet the weather anchor, Sam Champion.
While the stars of Good Morning America chat it up on screen, on the other side of the cameras, the chatter is of a different type. It's about camera moves and preparations for the next segment, and occasionally above all the murmur comes a distinctive laugh.
Regular viewers recognize the laugh of weather anchor Sam Champion, whose been with ABC since 2006.
I caught up with Sam just before he headed into the crowd.
Sam feeds off the energy of the crowd and the energy of his co-workers, particularly his on-going teasing with news anchor Josh Elliott.
Beyond the fun Sam Champion is serious about weather. He's in the weather center by 4:30 every morning meeting with the meteorologists who've been working all night. Together they decide the day's top weather stories and the best ways to tell those stories.
It's all the behind-the-scenes work that makes Good Morning America seem effortless when it hits the air. Plus, it's the chemistry of the anchors, which Sam says carries over off-camera.
There's one member of the GMA anchor team who often misses out on the get-togethers though. But, that's for tomorrow's story.
