Buffalo (WKBW) Friday night, the Adam's Mark Hotel in Downtown Buffalo was full of volunteers, celebrities, and anticipation for Sunday's Variety Kids Telethon. Many gathered for the annual satellite volunteer dinner. Channel 7 personalities joined this year's national cast of celebrities for the upcoming telethon to thank the volunteers and all they have done this year.
Telethon Honorary Co-Chair Joseph Salvatore credited the satellite volunteers for a year's worth of hard work.
"They're a huge part of the telethon. You can't reach all those people. These are all places people can go to and the people bring down the money to the telethon. They're a huge factor and have a huge impact on the telethon itself," he said.
At the dinner, whether you asked a news anchor, a performing artist, or a seven foot wrestler, they all agreed on what the telethon is truly about; the kids.
"It's a fulfilling thing inside yourself to be able to give back to the community and to Children's (Hospital). This is just a great way for us to help and be able to give back a little bit more to that aspect," Salvatore said.
All this in preparation for this weekend's Variety Kids Telethon, to raise money for Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo and other local charities. Last year's telethon raised over a million dollars, and this year organizers hope it will only keep growing.
"You can feel the buildup. The adrenaline starts pumping already into you, and the whole thing changes completely. I can't even imagine what it's going to be like Sunday morning," Salvatore added.
You can see the 2011 Variety Kids Telethon this Sunday from 7am to 7pm on WKBW Channel 7.
