NYS Police and fire crews responded to a serious accident along the Thruway.
It happened shortly before 4pm Sunday-- a recreational vehicle and car crashed together sending both off the road along the eastbound side of the Thruway in Blasdell. Traffic was shut down in the driving lane, just past the Lake Avenue bridge. Emergency crews cleared the scene at 7pm Sunday night.
Responding rescue crews reported a trauma code victim and serious injuries to at least one other motorist.
Late Sunday night, the NYS Police issued the following release:
The State Police on the Thruway are currently investigating a two vehicle, serious personal injury, accident that occurred on the I-90 Eastbound between the Hamburg and Blasdell Exits at about 3:50 pm Sunday.
The operator of the first car, Jason A. Hoover 6/10/1972 of Orchard Park, NY, was traveling Eastbound on the I-90 when he lost control of his vehicle, for an unknown reason, and then overcorrected causing his vehicle to reenter the Thruway sideways where he was struck by a recreational vehicle driven by Joseph W. Poole 11/10/1952 of Syracuse, NY.
A passenger in the Hoover vehicle, Donna G. Nappa 9/8/1971 of Amherst, was seriously injured and is listed in critical condition at ECMC. Hoover was transported to ECMC with non-life threatening injuries.
The collision remains under investigation at this time.
