DARIEN, NY (WKBW) - More than 1,000 pigs were rescued from a barn fire Thursday in the Genesee County Town of Darien.

Flames broke out at around 1:00 at the Willow Ridge Farm on Ridge Road.

Firefighters had both manpower and water supply issues, but the biggest challenge was removing the pigs and piglets from the structure.

An unknown number of swine were killed in the blaze.

The farmer was trying to find temporary housing for the pigs.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
