BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW ) Channel 7's Eyewitness News This Morning" team of Patrick Taney, Ginger Geoffery, and Jaclyn Asztalos joined thousands Sunday in the Rose Garden at Delaware Park kick off the "March For Babies!'
Teams of families, students, and children gathered Sunday despite the threatening weather. Close to $250,000 was raised for the March of Dimes in their fight against birth defects and premature birth.
Celebrity Mom Renee Messecar told Eyewitness News, "My daughter was born at one pound, five and 1/2 ounces. She had to struggle to start in life, and it's just amazing what the March Of Dimes has done for us and for our family. We didn't even know we needed them, and they were here for us to have our little miracle."
Renee's daughter Karlyn was the ambassador child for the "March For Babies" and lit up the morning with her own brand of sunshine.
Mayor Byron Brown helped kick off the race, saying, "There are so many children and families. Everybody is smiling, people having a good time, walking together. This is a tremendous event and it shows the wonderful community spirit that we have in Buffalo and Western New York."
The March Of Dimes is the largest non-profit organization for pregnancy issues and healthy babies.
WKBW is a proud supporter of the March and the work of the organization.
