A former landfill in the town of Wheatfield that has neighbors worried about their health will soon be investigated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC).

The study will take place at old Niagara Sanitation Company" landfill site located on Nash Road. It contained waste from the Love Canal environmental disaster, but was cleared out in 2015.

However, the DEC reclassified the landfill site to a Class Two from a Class Three site on the New York State Registry of Inactive Hazardous Waste sites due to recently discovered surface soil contaminants in several locations.

Some people who live on Nash Road worry there are dangerous chemicals left behind and have since filed claims against the town of Wheatfield.
