A former Erie County Sheriff's Deputy will spend five years in prison for beating the mother of his child until she was unresponsive.

40-year-old Dennis McAndrew was sentenced Tuesday after taking a plea deal and pleading guilty to assault back in August.

Over two days in December 2017, McAndrew beat the womanin his Olcott Avenue home in Buffalo. Police found the woman unresponsive. She spent more than a week in Erie County Medical Center with injuries to her face and body.

Since taking the plea deal in August, McAndrew also violated an order of protection by sending the victims letters from jail. At the sentencing, the judge issued a new order of protection forbidding McAndrew from having contact with her until 2031.
