A former nursing home aide at Niagara Rehabilitation & Nursing accepted a plea deal Wednesday in State Supreme Court, officials confirmed Thursday morning.

Amanda N. Kissell, 34, of Niagara Falls, faces up to four years in prison when she is sentenced April 13. She will be sentenced on a felony charge of attempted third-degree grand larceny for stealing more than $3,500 from a patient in her care in 2015.

She was originally charged with seven counts of felony forgery in addition to the grand larceny charges.

A 7 Eyewitness News Investigation revealed that Kissell was convicted of Driving While Ability Impaired in 2003 -- a year before she was hired at Niagara Rehab. The "Criminal Caregivers" investigation showed that Niagara Rehab does not fully check the backgrounds of its job applicants and does not screen them for drug use before they are hired.
