A former mail carrier who pleaded guilty to opening mail without lawful authority was sentenced to two years probation in federal court Tuesday.

Nichole Crosson, 23, of Buffalo, was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay $1,729.21 in restitution. Prosecutors accused Crosson of stealing that amount in cash and gift cards while working as a mail carrier. Prosecutors reported one occasion in which Crosson was accused of removing $50 in cash from a greeting card that was addressed to a West Seneca resident.

The cash and gift cards were taken between January and April of 2016. The United States Postal Service and the Office of the Inspector General assisted in the investigation.
