The flu was deemed widespread in New York state in December. And now, for the first time since then, the number of lab-confirmed flu cases has dropped.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that around 13,700 cases of the flu were reported to state health department officials. That's down 18,250 from the week before.

More than 100,000 cases of the flu have been reported in the state over the past three months. Nearly 18,300 people have been hospitalized.
