Two people are dead after a fishing boat capsized on a pond in Alden Thursday morning.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene at the quarry pond off of Billo Road just before noon.

First responders administered CPR to one of the victims while others searched for the missing second boater. Crews located the second boater around 15 minutes later and performed CPR. Mercy Flight was on scene. Both men were declared dead at the scene.

New York State Police have identified the men as 62-year-old Paul Nowak, of Akron, and 71-year-old Russell Bolognese, of Amherst.

Authorities say the men were not wearing safety vests. It appears that the men were fishing when one of the men stood up on the boat, capsizing the water craft.
