Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 21 for a beloved local fire chief.

Chief Randy Rider of the Sheridan Park Volunteer Fire Company passed away earlier this week.

Rider, a certified fire service instructor, served as chief of Sheridan Park since 1995. According to his Linkedin page, he also worked for the past 22 years in the Town of Tonawanda Highway Department.

Dozens of local fire companies came to show their support, and took part in a procession honoring the late chief.

"Because of his dedication, because of his love for the fire service...thousands of firefighters are better off today, safer today, and better prepared today because of the efforts of Chief Randy Rider,” said Daniel Neaverth, Jr., the Erie County Commissioner of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.

Funeral services for Chief Rider will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Herbert Hoover Middle School on Thorncliff Road in the Town of Tonawanda.
