A Lewiston dog is homeward bound after an incredible journey in the Southern Tier.

Andrew and Pauline Shomers feared they would never see their beloved husky, Valley, again after she disappeared this past July 1st from the couple's camp in West Clarksville in Allegany County.

The Shomers put up flyers offering a $500 reward for Valley's safe return. But five months passed and hope faded. Valley was gone for good, or so it appeared.

But that all changed Tuesday. Call it an early Christmas miracle. Valley was found - hungry but alive. She was sleeping in an old dog house within 10 miles from the Shomers' camp.

The Southern Tier Animal Rescue, which shared video of the emotional reunion on its Facebook page, says Valley has a urinary tract infection, worms and is dehydrated, but is a "tough girl," and they're hopeful she will pull through and soon be back home in Lewiston with her family.
