He was well known in the Village of Lancaster for his energy, his big personality and his presence outside, dribbling a basketball.

That's how the family of James Metz wants him to be remembered. Metz was killed in 2014 when a small plane he was riding in at a Young Eagles rally collided with another in midair. He was just 14 years old.

James's family is hosting their 3rd annual James Metz Memorial 5k on Saturday, June 24th. The kickoff is at 10 a.m. at Keysa Park.

This year's 5k is a little different though. It begins with celebration and a dedication of the basketball courts at 9 a.m. Metz loved to play basketball, so after his death his brother Donovan got to work restoring the courts at Keysa Park. They're now painted James's favorite color, blue.

Proceeds from the 5k will go toward establishing a scholarship fund for Lancaster students.

Registration is open to all for the 5k up until race start time. You can find more information here
