The family of murder victim Melody Wilson is outraged over the pending release of the young girl's convicted killer.
In August 1987, Thomas Kennedy, 21, raped and killed Melody Wilson, 9, after taking the child and others to Squaw Island in Buffalo (now Unity Island) to play hide and seek.
Kennedy was sentenced to 25 years to life for the crime but was recently granted parole without civil confinement.
Anne and Tammy Wilson, Melody's sisters, say they had no knowledge of the parole hearing and would have strongly argued against any release.
"I don't think he should be allowed out of his cage. He is an animal," said Anne Wilson.
"Every breath he took everyday was a breath that my sister was not going to get," added Tammy Wilson.
7 Eyewitness News reporter Ed Reilly talked with the sisters who said they plan to file complaints with Governor Cuomo and NYS lawmakers.
A release date is still to be set as a process needs to examine housing and safety options for Kennedy who is now in New York State's Clinton Correctional facility.
