BUFFALO, N.Y. ( WKBW ) Michael DeBellis created a book to highlight positives for challenged children. Michael stopped by Channel 7's Eyewitness News This Morning Thursday to talk about "Charlie and the Cardboard Box."
In an emotional letter to WKBW, Michael told us about his project, which gave us the inspiration to help give this worthy effort some spotlight.
Here is a portion of that letter:
"I am the father of a developmentally disabled young man and he inspired me to write a children’s book that stars a little boy whose disability requires him to use a wheelchair.
For years I have felt that there is a serious void in the children’s book marketplace for kid’s with disabilities to relate to, so I finally wrote one – it’s called “Charlie and the Cardboard Box”.
I self-published 50 copies, but don’t have the resources to get this book to the masses. I’m hoping that with some exposure, someone will catch the vision and help me get it published properly.
So far, the kids of my employees, who are not disabled have fallen in love with the book and as I hoped they learned that these kids have dreams and aspirations too.
My prayer is that this book be in inspiration to kids with disabilities and an education for kids who aren’t disabled.
I’m very excited about where this project can grow to and look forward to sharing my story with your TV audience."
