Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) -Erie Community College is waiting on the results of a study that could open the doors for a multi-million dollar project. Most of the expansion will be on the Amherst campus where new buildings will be constructed and old ones torn down.
College officials are pushing for a major expansion and upgrade at all three of its campuses. It could mean the construction of a new building focused on advanced manufacturing. That's a program that has attracted a lot of success and students. It could help get Buffalo back to its roots.
"Buffalo, NY has the potential to become a manufacturing center again. This was the steel capital of America," Industrial Supporter Corporation Director Michael Sullivan said.
ECC has already raised around $30 million for this expansion and college leaders said they must go ahead with expansion plans or risk losing more students. The college is having a tough time competing with neighboring colleges like Niagara County Community College.
