Hamburg, N.Y. (WKBW) - Andrew, Noah, Isaac, Jean Marie and Elizabeth McFarland.
A family brought together through prayer.
“When we were blessed to have three boys biologically but adoption had always been in my heart. I actually started praying if God wanted us to expand our family through getting pregnant or adoption,” Mom Erica McFarland said.
Erica and Joe McFarland decided to adopt and received a beautiful little girl named Elizabeth.
“About a year and four months after we had started to pursue adoption we got here. Her birth mom asked us to parent her,” McFarland said.
Joe McFarland said he decided adoption was the option when he realized the loving family he could give to little Elizabeth.
“It was a dream of my wife's to adopt but it took me a little while. Then my heart was changed through a book that I read in one of my bible studies,” Dad Joe McFarland said.
Then, adopting Jean Marie was a lot easier but bit more unexpected. The McFarland's felt content with their family of four, until a request to adopt came through Facebook.
“It wasn't part of our prayer request but four house later her situation came to us. Within 9 days, we had all our paperwork finished and we were going to pick her up,” Erica McFarland said.
Jeanie loves her new home. As for her brothers, their parents say the boys are over the moon for their little sisters.
“I love all my family,” Jeanie said.
Erica still didn't stop there. Now, she helps others bring children in their lives who need them most.
“I’ve been able to start a group at the Wesleyan Church of Hamburg called Chosen. That was my calling to help people who want to foster or adopt or what not,” Erica said.
Erica said she couldn't have done this alone. She said her husband Joe and her boys were a big part of what makes this family unit run smoothly.
“We are there as a team. So it's been wonderful. It's been a lot of work, a lot to learn. We got ready in nine days. Most people have nine months,” Joe McFarland said.
Along with caring for this beautiful family, the couple also has a small business on the side and many other projects they work on as a family. Erica said it all part of her busy and loving home, a love that she hopes to pass on to others.
“All this is a passion that God has given me from a very young age,” Erica McFarland said.
