The Erie County Sheriff's Office is welcoming a new cadaver canine to the force.

Sheriff Tim Howard announced Wednesday his office received funding form the Erie County Sheriff's 21st Century Foundation to acquire Leiche.

The 2-year-old cadaver canine will work with an existing handler. All cadaver dogs are trained to locate human remains buried by detecting scents from human cells.

Leiche was a rescue dog and is being trained in Ontario, Canada. Leiche is expected to complete training sometime this month and then will become the second female canine deployed in the sheriff's office.
