The Erie County Water Authority is urging customers to stay alert after becoming aware of impersonators.

The Water Authority says there was an incident involving an individual impersonating an ECWA water meter worker in the Town of Aurora recently.

The ECWA is now encouraging customer to learn how to identify employees before allowing them access to their home or business.

All meter service workers travel in white vans with a blue ECWA decal on both sides. They wear a blue uniform with an ECWA emblem, and carry a photo identification badge.

Customers are asked to confirm these three forms of identification from anyone claiming they are at the premises to read or perform work on the water meter.

If you are not shown proper identification, you should immediately shut your door and call 911 or the ECWA's customer service line at 849-8484
