BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Incumbent Democrat Antoine Thompson is in the fight for his political life against Republican Mark Grisanti in the race for the 60th State Senate District.
Just a few hundred votes separate the two candidates, with absentee ballots yet to be counted.
The fate of the 60th Senate District, which covers parts of Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Grand Island, could play a major role in who takes power in the State Senate.
Thompson had received some negative press heading into the election after being named in the AEG pay-to-play scandal that rocked Albany as well his use of tax dollars to print books that detailed his legislative accomplishments.
Thompson spoke to his supporters Tuesday night telling them he is waiting on the numbers and that he is very optimistic.
Grisanti challenged Thompson two years ago in the Democratic primary for the same seat.
