Dunkirk City Police have released the name of the man who was killed in the fatal accident that occurred just before 10:00 p.m. at the Dunkirk City Pier.
Sixty-four-year-old Steven Kucmierz, of Dunkirk, crashed his vehicle through the railing of the city pier and became submerged underwater.
Dunkirk Fire Department and Dunkirk Underwater Rescue Team members were called to extricate him from the badly damaged vehicle. Once freed, Kucmierz was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital, where he died.
Police say he suffered a medical emergency prior to the accident.
