For the first time in nearly 50 years, Dunkirk is hosting an airshow.  The event is creating a lot of excitement because many younger residents have never seen an airshow in Dunkirk.

It will feature seven acts that include a wing walker, parachutists, WWII P-51 Mustangs and a rare Russian jet.

Viewing areas along the shoreline, and from boats, are expected to provide an excellent view of the airplanes,

7 Eyewitness News Reporter Ed Reilly spent the day talking with residents, pilots and officials about the big event.

The 2016 Dunkirk-Lakeshore Airshow is free to the public and will be held on July 2nd and July 3rd. The pre-show activities kick off at 1pm.

There will be free park and ride shuttle service from parking lots at SUNY Fredonia and the Chautuaqua County Fairgrounds from 12pm to 8pm.

Lake Front Blvd. from Main St. to Serval will be closed during the event.
