Deputies say the driver of a tractor trailer fell asleep before a rollover crash in Wyoming County.

Around noon on Rt. 20A near Buffalo Hill Village in the Town of Sheldon, the sheriff's office says Matthew Rohrer fell asleep behind the wheel of his tractor trailer and lost control, striking a berm on the roadway and rolling his tractor trailer.

The Lamponi, Iowa man was taken to ECMC with serious injuries. He was cited for unreasonable speed for special hazards, failure to keep right and unsafe lane change.

Rohrer was hauling 43,256 pounds of food grade salt. Crews spent hours cleaning it up and a DEC crew was dispatched to clean up fuel after a tank ruptured.

The roadway remained closed for several hours.
