Nine months after the Westwood Country Club in Amherst closed its doors for good, developers are planning to install a protective fence around the property.
The Mensch Capital Group is planning to install a 9,000-foot security fence around the site around the perimeter of the former club.
"We've had a number of people that have been walking on the site and treating it as a park when it is in fact not," said Andrew Shaevel with Mensch Capital Partners.
The developers are planning a multi-million dollar, mixed-use concept on the site but all plans are on hold because the site is being classified as a brownfield.
But the decision to install a fence and the mixed-use concept is not sitting well with neighbors.
"This is not appropriate," Joseph Schwab told 7 Eyewitness News. Schwab is a member of Keep Westwood Green and says the space is best used as a park.
