Deputies investigate rash of battery thefts

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a series of battery thefts from commercial vehicles.

Investigators say this has been happening over the past six weeks. The type 31 batteries are commonly found on large trucks, buses and heavy equipment. 

The Sheriff's Office say it has received over a dozen complaints from different businesses in the Towns of Elba, Oakfield, Batavia, Byron, Alabama and Alexander.

Deputies say the batteries can sell for as mush as $300 and have value as used batteries or sold as scrap.
